A History Of The First Generation Ford Mustang

By: nlwest

The Ford Mustang is one of the most best-known muscle autos that have been produced. During its long history the company has produced numerous renderings of it and made special versions that have sold for thousands of dollars. The whole concept and conception of the muscle car started in 1962 with the existence of the very first generation Ford Mustang.

The first generation Mustang was the origin of a new era for Ford and for the muscle cars. The model was first shown to the public in 1962 as a two-seater auto that was constructed with a V4 mid-engine. In October of 1963 the Mustang II was shown and designed as a four-seater auto with a front engine. This went on sale only six months later. The consumers enjoyed the look that the muscle car had to offer and it soon rivaled that of the Corvette.

The first-gen Mustang was established with the design of a unibody construction and was laid over a wheelbase that was 108 inches and had the length of 181.6 inches. Ford was pushed to utilise corresponding pieces from the Ford Falcon in order to save money. These pieces included the rear suspension and double wishbone coil spring.

The front segment of the car was longer then normal and protruded farther into the back giving the vehicle a longer hood and a shorter roof. The figure was employed to save Ford money - but in the end it was what made it so special and fashionable. Along with this design the muscle car was fitted out with the classic running horse placed on the grille and the side scallops on the side of the car.

It was constructed with a 2.8 liter OHV straight six engine that had the ability to push out 101 horsepower. Over time it was promoted to the 3.3 liter and then the 4.7 liter - which was able to thrust out 220 HP. The three speed manual transmission came standard with each engine that it was equipped with.

It did not take a long time for the first-gen Mustang to become popular to customers. Throughout Ford Mustang history it has only improved and even now is rather common among both the older and younger generation.
