Proper Folder Printing

By: Robert Johnston

Are you planning on using custom folders in your business? Folder printing is nothing new in most firms and many identify it as a good investment for a company’s image and reputation. Customizing folder printing however can be something of a walk in a tightrope though. You need to balance several factors to create a good design for proper folder printing. In this guide I will show you a few techniques in creating proper and useful custom folders.
Never have too much clutter: First, a proper folder doesn’t have too much clutter. This means that your design should not have too many details like images, text and other design elements. You are not designing a magazine cover or a brochure here. Folders are containers of other information and its real job is to make the presentation of the information look good. So aim for simple and stylish designs, that doesn’t really distract from the content itself inside the folder. That is why you always have to make sure that you or your layout designers do not get carried away with the design of your custom folders.
Simple and direct messages: Secondly, folder printing designs are usually good if they give a simple and direct message. For example, you can have a design with a simple company logo. This tells people that the content within the folder is from that company. Also another example, a folder can have the words “URGENT” or “CLASSIFIED” designed into it, along with a seal or logo again of an agency or firm. Take a guess at what is it all about?
By being direct to the point about your custom folder designs, people can immediately judge if the information within them is intended for someone else or if they should be curious about it. Ambiguous designs on the other hand will only confuse readers making it possible for the custom folders and their content to be misused and even misplaced in certain circumstances. So make it simple and direct and your folder should have no problems.
Use the best size and dimensions: Also for a true and proper folder printing, you have to always try to take into account the possible content that will be put into the folders. This will determine the best size and dimensions of the file folders. For example, if you will just use the folders for standard letter sized folders then you can set the custom folder dimensions to accommodate papers in letter sized. However, if your folders need also to contain legal sized papers which are long by a few inches, then the custom folder should also be at least at that size to accommodate them. So match the size of your file folders with the maximum size of your possible content. This should make everything easier for you when dealing with folder content.
So those are our tips for proper folder printing. In summary you just need to be simple with your design, be direct with your message and adapt the folder for the largest size content. Using these tips should put you well on your way to proper folder printing. Good Luck!
