Stored Procedure Corruption in SQL Server Database

Stored Procedures in SQL Server are similar to the constructs seen in the other programming languages. Stored procedure can be referred as the group of Transact-SQL statements compiled into a single execution plan. These key benefits of this technology includes precompiled execution, reduced client/server traffic, enhanced security controls, efficient reuse of code and programming abstraction and lots many.

These procedures take input parameters as the data and result output in four ways viz. output parameters either data or cursor variable, integer value as codes, result set for each SELECT statement contained in the stored procedure and global cursor.

The stored procedure also helps in increasing the performance of the SQL Server database. They can be used to run a series of SQL statements on the conditional logic. If this conditional logic and SQL statements are written into a stored procedure then they become a part of single execution plan on the server and in this case if any corruption is seen in these procedures then the scene can be very weird.

The efficiency of the database may degrade along with the bad output results may come out. All of the functions which are intended to get executed by these stored procedures may come down and thus making the database fragile. The remedy for this corruption is SQL database repair. You may encounter the following error messages when the stored procedure corrupts:

“Error 0:[SQL-DMO]Object 'dbo.SP_ProcName' was not scripted. It is possible that the information in system table 'syscomments' about the object was corrupt or missing?”

Or

“Incorrect key file ... try to repair it”

The reasons for the same can be anyone like application malfunction or virus attack. But corruption in the stored procedures can be very mind shaking experience for the users. In this case the database may also get corrupt like in the case if the procedure runs any ‘Alter’ or ‘Insert’ like command for the database. So repairing the database along with the stored procedure is very important in this case.
